A national political forum meeting in Misrata has urged Libyan factions to accelerate the formation of a unified government and immediately organise presidential and legislative elections.
The national forum, dubbed “The Future of Libya,” brought together political forces, municipal representatives, civil society actors, and several parties on Saturday. It concluded its work by stressing the urgent need for institutional renewal.
According to the gathering’s final declaration, continued governmental fragmentation “aggravates the crises and threatens the country’s stability.”
The participants called for the rapid establishment of a single executive body capable of managing the transition and preparing for credible elections.
They also emphasised the necessity for all Libyan actors to support the efforts of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) aimed at unifying institutions and promoting a lasting political compromise.
The communiqué stated that the persistence of parallel structures and the dispersal of public spending, in the absence of a unified development budget, attest to a “serious governmental deficiency.”
This situation, organizers warned, contributes to the continuous degradation of services and complicates the country’s economic management.
The text further called for strengthening mechanisms for transparency and governance within public institutions. It recommended fully activating oversight bodies to combat corruption, regulate public spending, and ensure the protection of state funds.
According to the participants, only consolidated governance will make it possible to restore confidence, stabilize institutions, and create the conditions for a lasting return to political normalcy.
