Police in Niamey have seized 31.6 kilograms of cannabis and various other narcotics in a major drug bust in the Saga Gorou neighborhood, according to a statement to APA.
The operation, carried out on 27 June 2025 by officers from the Niamey 2000 Police Station, followed intelligence reports indicating drug trafficking activities in the area. One suspect was arrested on suspicion of drug dealing.
A subsequent search of two houses used by the suspect for illicit activities uncovered a significant quantity of narcotics: 35 bricks of cannabis totaling 31.6 kg, 53 and a half Tramadol 250 tablets, 7 Escazepam tablets, and various paraphernalia.
Police also confiscated a Toyota Corolla LE, two mobile phones (a Tecno Camon and a Redmi), CFA 22,500 in cash (45 notes of CFA 500 and one CFA 1,000 note), a beret, an American-style knife, and multiple used plastic bags.
Authorities say the seizure highlights the scale of the suspect’s trafficking operations and demonstrates the effectiveness of security forces in combating drug-related crimes.
The Niamey 2000 Police Station praised the local community for its role in facilitating the operation and urged citizens to continue reporting suspicious behavior to help improve public safety.
This arrest is part of Niger’s broader efforts to crack down on drug trafficking and protect the population from the dangers of narcotics.
