Trucks carrying Moroccan medical and food aid have arrived in Gaza, providing much-needed relief to the Palestinian population suffering under the ongoing Israeli blockade.
The delivery comes as reports indicate a rising number of Palestinians killed by Israeli forces while attempting to access aid.
A video released by the Bayt Mal Al-Quds news agency on Monday showed trucks loaded with supplies, bearing the Moroccan flag and the logo of the Mohammed VI Foundation for Solidarity, navigating the streets of Gaza. The aid was delivered to warehouses, where teams began the unloading process.
Subsequent photos showed Moroccan food aid, including baby food, canned goods, flour, and fruit, being stored in distribution centers in Deir el-Balah in central Gaza. This support is arriving at a critical time, as the humanitarian crisis worsens due to the Israeli blockade, leading to widespread malnutrition and famine. Many hospitals are struggling to function, and basic necessities have become scarce and unaffordable for most residents.
While the Moroccan aid has been welcomed by many Palestinians, humanitarian organizations warn that the volume of assistance remains woefully insufficient.
The Gaza government press office reported that only 85 trucks of humanitarian aid entered the enclave yesterday. This is far below the estimated 500 to 600 trucks needed daily to provide adequate assistance, reduce looting, and lower the high prices caused by shortages, according to both the press office and the United Nations. This daily requirement has never been met since aid was first allowed to enter Gaza following a prolonged Israeli siege.
The situation on the ground remains extremely dangerous. The Gaza Health Ministry reported that at least 135 Palestinians were killed in Israeli attacks in the past 24 hours, including 87 people waiting for aid. These attacks also injured 771 people.
Furthermore, the ministry stated that five people died of starvation during the same period, bringing the total number of hunger-related deaths to 193, with 96 of them being children. Three additional bodies were discovered under the rubble of previous Israeli bombardments.
The number of Palestinians killed while seeking humanitarian aid continues to rise. Since May 27, when Israel implemented a new aid distribution system, 1,655 people have been killed and over 11,800 injured while trying to access assistance.
