The Royal Moroccan Football Association (FRMF) issued an official statement late Tuesday evening to categorically deny rumors regarding the departure of national team coach Walid Regragui.
The federation addressed widespread media speculation suggesting that both parties had mutually agreed to terminate their contract, clarifying that Regragui remains at the helm of the Atlas Lions.
Since his appointment in August 2022, Regragui has overseen a historic period for Moroccan football. He famously led the squad to the semi-finals of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and most recently guided them to the final of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) held in Morocco, where they narrowly lost to Senegal.
Under Regragui’s leadership, the national team also achieved a world-record streak of 19 consecutive victories. Despite the recent heartbreak in the AFCON final, the FRMF appears committed to the coach, whose current contract is set to run through the end of the 2026 World Cup in North America. The federation’s intervention puts an end to hours of uncertainty fueled by reports that an official announcement of his exit was imminent.
