Morocco’s electronic visa (e-visa) service, launched in July 2022, has demonstrated remarkable success, processing nearly half a million applications.
As it enters its third year of operation, the system continues its robust momentum, driven by strong growth in the tourism sector and increasing international adoption.
The Moroccan e-visa has reached a significant milestone. According to the latest official figures, approximately 500,000 applications have been processed since its inception three years ago. The third year alone saw 187,895 applications, a substantial increase from the 134,000 processed in the preceding year, underscoring the system’s growing appeal and consolidation.
Accessible to 118 nationalities, the e-visa offers two flexible options: a standard issuance within 72 hours and an express option available within 24 hours. This adaptability, combined with streamlined application procedures, is a key factor in its popularity among international travelers. The vast majority of e-visa applications—94.1 percent—are for tourism purposes, affirming the Kingdom’s strategic openness in promoting its destination. While still marginal at 5.9 percent, the share of business visas is steadily rising, particularly following Morocco’s hosting of major international events. The system successfully facilitated the entry of foreign delegations for the IMF and World Bank Annual Meetings in October 2023, as well as the Gitex Africa trade fair in Marrakech.
Beyond the impressive statistics, the e-visa’s success reflects a broader transformation within the Moroccan administration. It is an integral part of Moroccan diplomacy’s comprehensive effort to modernize consular services, with a strong emphasis on digitalization, transparency, and responsiveness. Furthermore, the e-visa strategically anticipates the projected increase in tourist flows as Morocco prepares to co-host the 2030 World Cup. With growing demand and a proven operational track record, the e-visa is solidifying its position as a vital diplomatic and economic instrument, contributing significantly to travel fluidity, the Kingdom’s international influence, and its strategic standing in the global tourism landscape.
