The Steering Committee of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) convened at its Rabat headquarters on Thursday to address a critical agenda centered on international competitions and the structural evolution of national football.
Led by FRMF President Fouzi Lekjaa, the meeting underscored the strategic importance of the current season, which officials have described as “exceptional” due to Morocco’s heavy involvement in multiple high-profile tournaments.
Central to the discussions was the Kingdom’s role as host for the upcoming 35th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in 2025. President Lekjaa announced that a dedicated special meeting would be held in the near future to conduct a comprehensive evaluation of the preparations for the tournament. In addition to AFCON, the committee reviewed the country’s roadmap for the African Nations Championship (CHAN) and the FIFA Arab Cup, both of which feature prominently in Morocco’s short-to-medium-term sporting objectives.
Addressing ongoing legal matters, the President provided an update on the reported incidents surrounding the recent AFCON final. He clarified that the CAF Appeals Committee has not yet delivered a final ruling on the matter, noting that the FRMF is diligently monitoring the situation through official continental channels to ensure a fair resolution.
The committee also turned its attention to domestic governance, reviewing statutory amendments proposed by the National Professional Football League (LNFP). These updates focus on streamlining the organization of general assemblies, tightening club membership criteria, and implementing new legal recommendations to professionalize the league further.
Concluding the session, the Steering Committee formally approved the continuation of the national championship in strict adherence to its original schedule. This decision aims to maintain competitive consistency as Morocco balances its domestic league demands with its extensive international hosting responsibilities.
