The Russian ambassador to Juba Tuesday stated his country’s unflinching support to South Sudan’s political process which would culminate in elections next December.
It would be the world newest country’s first election since independence from the rest of Sudan in July 2011.
Russian Ambassador Aleksandr Kosmodemyansky made the pledge while meeting South Sudan’s presidential affairs minister Africao Mande Gedima to review bilateral relations between Juba and Moscow.
Ambassador Kosmodemyansky described ties as constructive, grounded in mutual respect, sovereignty, and non-interference.
Reaffirming Russia’s full support for the elections slated for December, the Russian diplomat disclosed that South Sudanese electoral officials will undergo training in Russia.
Moscow said its officials are also poised for expanding political, business, and cultural engagement with South Sudan.
During Tuesday’s meeting both sides committed to facilitating more collaboration to create economic development and investment opportunities.
