A total turnover of 4.433 billion shares worth ₦306.143 billion in 255,589 deals was traded this week by investors on the floor of the Nigerian Exchange Ltd (NGX) in contrast to a total of 2.819 billion shares valued at ₦182.499 billion that exchanged hands last week in 226,729 deals.
According to the weekly report of transactions released on Friday in Lagos by the NGX, the Financial Services Industry led the activity chart with 3.422 billion shares valued at ₦207.206 billion traded in 117,545 deals, while the Consumer Goods Industry followed with 201.978 million shares worth ₦17.171 billion in 28,666 deals.
The third place was the ICT Industry, with a turnover of 169.481 million shares worth ₦21.194 billion in 23,107 deals.
Trading in the top three equities, namely First Holdco Plc, Access Holdings Plc and Guaranty Trust Holding Company Plc, accounted for 2.151 billion shares worth ₦170.793 billion in 44,768 deals, contributing 48.51% and 55.79% to the total equity turnover volume and value respectively.
It added that a total of 2.559 million units valued at ₦447.340 million were traded this week in 5,338 deals compared with a total of 2.320 million units valued at ₦518.995 million, transacted last week in 5,354 deals.
In the Bonds section, a total of 189,675 units valued at ₦185.844 million were traded this week in 64 deals compared with a total of 344,753 units valued at ₦371.775 million transacted last week in 62 deals.
The NGX All-Share Index and Market Capitalization appreciated by 1.60% and 1.61% to close the week at 247,357.40 and ₦159.588 trillion respectively.
Similarly, all other indices finished higher with the exception of NGX Consumer Goods, NGX Lotus II, NGX Growth, NGX Sovereign Bond and NGX Commodity indices which depreciated by 3.76%, 1.55%, 20.24%, 0.14% and 1.25% respectively. ($1= N1362)
