Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi and Russian President Vladimir Putin have expressed their willingness to deepen cooperation across key sectors, including energy, trade, tourism and investment.
In a phone call earlier this week, President Al-Sisi stated that Russia has the necessary influence to help bring an end to the war in the Middle East, according to an official statement from the Egyptian presidency on Thursday.
The exchange comes amid heightened regional tensions, with economic repercussions already visible in energy and trade markets.
During the discussion, the Egyptian leader stressed the urgency of containing the escalation and preserving regional stability, highlighting Cairo’s ongoing efforts in coordination with various partners to ease tensions.
He noted that “the security of Arab countries is a direct extension of Egypt’s national security,” reaffirming his country’s full support for the stability and sovereignty of Arab states.
In this context, Al-Sisi underlined that Moscow, given its global standing, could play a decisive role in shaping the course of the conflict.
For his part, President Putin welcomed Egypt’s initiatives aimed at promoting regional security and expressed readiness to contribute to a swift de-escalation.
The two leaders also discussed ways to restore a regional balance weakened by the economic fallout of the conflict, including rising energy prices and disruptions to supply chains.
The coordination also extends to the Palestinian issue, which Cairo places at the core of its diplomatic priorities.
Al-Sisi called for the continuation of the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, the delivery of sufficient humanitarian aid, and the swift launch of reconstruction efforts.
He reiterated Egypt’s commitment to a political solution based on the establishment of an independent Palestinian state along the June 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, which he described as the only path to lasting stability.
Beyond security concerns, the talks also addressed strengthening the strategic partnership between Egypt and Russia.
Major projects were discussed, including the El-Dabaa nuclear power plant and the Russian industrial zone in the Suez Canal Economic Zone, underscoring the economic depth of bilateral ties in a rapidly evolving global landscape.
