Senegal has been selected to host the 11th Francophonie Games in 2031, marking another milestone in the nation’s efforts to expand its presence on the global sporting and cultural stage.
According to an official statement from the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the decision aims to build directly upon the infrastructural and organizational legacy established during the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games.
Organized quadrennially under the auspices of the International Organisation of La Francophonie (OIF), the multi-sport and cultural festival gathers young athletes and artists from across member nations to compete in athletic events and artistic showcases. Hosting the international gathering provides Dakar with a platform to highlight local talent, enhance youth development programs, and leverage expertise gained from managing major global events.
Senegalese authorities view the 2031 Games as a key vehicle for fostering sustainable growth within the country’s sports, cultural, and creative industries. In collaboration with institutional partners and regional stakeholders, the Ministry of Youth and Sports is aligning preparations to promote intercultural dialogue, strengthen ties between participating nations, and expand opportunities for youth across the region.
