October 15, 2025 (APA) – Senegal’s Minister of Finance, Cheikh Diba, and IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening financial cooperation, marking a key step toward approving a new program between Senegal and the Bretton Woods institution.
Minister Diba met with Georgieva on Tuesday in Washington to continue discussions crucial to finalizing the new cooperation program. An official statement released Wednesday noted a “convergence of views” on the path forward, including an upcoming IMF Executive Board meeting scheduled in the coming weeks. This meeting will address the issue of misreporting and review the approval of the future partnership agreement.
Both parties stressed their determination to proceed jointly. “Once the technical discussions are finalized, Senegal and the IMF staff will progress together toward submission of the file to the Executive Board,” the statement confirmed.
To finalize the work initiated in Washington, an IMF staff mission is expected in Dakar next week.
The Senegalese delegation expressed appreciation for Ms. Georgieva’s recent statements following an informal Executive Board meeting held on October 3.
At the close of their discussions, Minister Diba and Ms. Georgieva reiterated their shared goal to “open a new page” in the partnership, solidifying the relationship of trust and cooperation between Senegal and the IMF.
