Senegal has won the gold medal in the Davis Cup Group III Africa tournament, held in Harare, Zimbabwe.
The victory secures their qualification for the World Group II playoffs, scheduled for early 2026.
The Senegalese team, led by captain Yannick Languina, finished the tournament at the top of the standings. Despite a final day loss to Nigeria (1-2), the Lions secured first place with four points and nine wins, placing them ahead of Namibia on match difference. This impressive performance follows their victory in Group IV in Luanda, Angola, in July 2024, confirming their ascent in world team tennis.
The team, composed of Seydina Andre, Nicolas Jadoun, Hassimiyou Dieng, and Zoheir Fardoun, displayed great cohesion throughout the event. Seydina Andre was a standout performer, securing a crucial victory against Nigeria with a score of 6-1, 6-4.
With this win, Senegal now sets its sights on climbing to a higher level in world team tennis. Their next challenge will be determined in the Group II playoff draw, with the match likely to be held in Dakar or the country of their future opponent.
