Occupants of shanties and stalls around Ibadan’s main stadium have been given a 14-day notice to vacate the area by the Oyo State Government in Nigeria.
The Oyo State Rule of Law Enforcement Authority (OYRLEA) issued the notice on Tuesday and expects the owners and occupants of kiosks and ram‑selling points near the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium, on Liberty Road in Ibadan to move from the area by February 10th.
Chairperson of OYRLEA, Justice Aderonke Aderemi (Rtd.) said the clearing exercise was directed by the Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde who is said to be appalled by the sight.
The OYRLEA said the decision was necessitated by the chaotic nature of makeshift selling points located next to the stadium walls, stretching for several blocks which constitute an encroachment.
Local authorities say the illegal structures pose security risks to the public aside from lending chaos to urban settings.
It also consttutes an environmental eyesore according to them.
