South Africans are set to pay more for fuel from Wednesday after the Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources announced increases across petrol, diesel, illuminating paraffin and LPGas.
The department said in a statement late Monday that both grades of petrol (unleaded petrol and lead replacement petrol) will rise by R1.34 (about $0,08) per litre while diesel will increase by R2.93 (for 0.05% sulphur grade) and R3.14 (for 0.005% sulphur grade).
Wholesale illuminating paraffin will go up by R2.13, with the maximum national retail price climbing R2.84.
LPGas will rise by 69 cents nationally and 79 cents in Western Cape province.
The department attributed the hikes to rising international oil prices, supply shortages linked to the Russia‑Ukraine conflict and increased shipping costs.
Brent crude averaged $87.88 per barrel in August, up from $82.37, driven by tensions in the Strait of Hormuz and US‑Iran uncertainty.
