Sudanese nationals are among five expatriates in Saudi Arabia arrested over the weekend for alleged involvement in the activities of a fake hajj syndicate, the Saudi Gazette reported.
The suspects also include Bangladeshi nationals who were arrested in Khamis Mushayt in the Asir region of the kingdom over fraudulent acts related to the coming hajj rituals.
The suspects have not been named.
The report quoted the Khamis Mushayt police as saying their case has been referred to the Public Prosecution for legal action.
”The five-member gang was found involved in posting misleading Hajj campaign advertisements on social media, claiming to provide housing and transportation for pilgrims within the holy sites in Makkah” the Saudi Gazette report said.
As Saudi Arabia prepare to welcome millions of Muslim adherents from around the world for this year’s hajj, the authorities have enjoined citizens and the expatriate community to abide by the kingdom’s regulations.
