Hon. Eng. Jonard Asiimwe Akiiki, Minister for Science, Technology and Innovation in the Office of the President, led a strategic engagement with Muni University in Arua aimed at accelerating the role of higher education in Uganda’s socioeconomic transformation.
The high-level discussions centered on bridging the gap between academic research and commercial application, addressing how scientific discoveries can move beyond classrooms and laboratories into active markets, industries, and local communities where they generate tangible value.
The strategic dialogue highlighted key pillars for reform, including the establishment of robust university-industry partnerships, effective innovation and incubation pathways, and product-oriented research models designed to equip graduates with market-ready skills. Participants emphasized the critical role of data analytics, product design, entrepreneurship, and community-responsive research, alongside sustainable collaborative frameworks that allow academic institutions and private enterprises to share technical expertise, infrastructure, and commercialization benefits. Through this Science, Technology, and Innovation agenda, the Ministry aims to position Ugandan universities as dynamic enterprise hubs that incubate businesses, solve real-world problems, and drive national industrialization and inclusive economic growth.
