The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) has announced the criteria for participation in its upcoming structured dialogue, scheduled to begin in November.
The goal is to bring together a truly representative panel of the country’s key stakeholders to shape a unified political future.
In a statement published on its official website, UNSMIL emphasized that the process will ensure geographical and social balance, actively including women, youth, cultural groups, civil society organizations, and national institutions. This inclusive approach is intended to make the dialogue an open and legitimate framework where “every voice counts in shaping the country’s political future.”
The dialogue will focus on five critical and interconnected priority areas: governance, the economy, security, national reconciliation, and human rights.
These themes are designed to identify the necessary reforms needed to resolve the persistent institutional impasse and rebuild trust among Libya’s various factions. UNSMIL stressed that it is working closely with political parties, newly elected municipal councils, and trade unions to ensure the legitimacy of the process.
The mission reiterated that this initiative is part of its ongoing effort to foster a dialogue that is “led and owned by the Libyans themselves,” in line with Security Council resolutions. Ultimately, UNSMIL aims to create conditions conducive to holding credible presidential and legislative elections, promoting a shared national vision, and addressing the root causes of the conflict that has left the country divided between rival administrations.
