The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) reiterated its unwavering support for Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara and its commitment to the security, stability, and territorial integrity of the kingdom of Morocco.
The renewed support of the GCC was expressed by its Secretary-General Jassem Mohammed Al-Budaiwi during the 8th Joint meeting with Morocco, held via visioconference on Thursday.
It witnessed the participation of the Minister of Foreign Affairs African Cooperation, and Moroccans Living Abroad, Nasser Bourita, as well as ministers and representatives of the GCC member states.
The GCC, comprising Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and Bahrain, once again welcomed UN Security Council Resolution 2797, which enshrined the autonomy plan under Moroccan sovereignty as the sole basis for resolving this regional conflict.
The council also expressed its support for the efforts of the UN Secretary-General and his Personal Envoy to facilitate negotiations, based on the Moroccan Autonomy Initiative, in accordance with the aforementioned Security Council resolution, aimed at achieving a definitive settlement to this
conflict within the framework of Morocco’s sovereignty over its southern provinces.
This unified position, expressed by the Secretary-General of the GCC on behalf of all member states, was confirmed by the participating delegations, which expressed their full and unwavering support for Morocco’s sovereignty over the Western Sahara and their commitment to its territorial integrity, while reiterating their rejection of any infringement upon the kingdom’s national sovereignty.
According to Rabat, this position further illustrates the strength of the fraternal relations and deep-rooted solidarity between Morocco and its Gulf partners, and the unity of their positions on the existential issues facing the Arab nation, foremost among which is the preservation of the national sovereignty and territorial integrity of these countries.
During the session, representatives of the GCC countries expressed their gratitude and deep appreciation to King Mohammed VI for Morocco’s strong support and clear solidarity with its
Gulf brothers in the face of Iranian aggression.
They commended the kingdom’s sincere fraternal support and active solidarity, particularly given the delicate circumstances facing the region, marked by Iran’s unjustified military escalation and repeated violations of the sovereignty of the Gulf States.
Morocco will host the 9th Joint Ministerial Meeting with the countries of the Cooperation Council of the Arab States of the Gulf.
