Having been crowned champions at the African Junior Team Championships held last March in Nairobi, South Africa and Kenya are now preparing for the World Junior Golf
Championships, scheduled to take place from 18 to 28 June in Japan.
With just a few weeks to go before the world event in Japan, the African representatives, South Africa and Kenya, are continuing their preparations with the aim of competing against the best junior golfing nations.
The continental junior golf competition, held at the Windsor Golf and Country Club in Nairobi, Kenya, saw South Africa dominate both the men’s and women’s events during the tournament held in March.
Kenya held onto second place from start to finish with a total of +13, thereby securing the second African spot for the World Junior Championships. Thanks to this result, the men’s teams from Kenya and South Africa will represent Africa at the 2026 World Junior Golf Championships in Japan this coming June.
In the women’s competition, South Africa also finished first, thanks to Lourenda Steyn, Phenyo Sebata and Casey Twidale.
Only the South African women’s team had secured their place at the World Championships, as the African quota is limited to one team.
South Africa’s Andries Van Der Vyver finished as the tournament’s top player. Kenya’s Mwathi Gicheru stood out for the home side with the best performance of his men’s team.
