Zambia plans to integrate artificial intelligence into its education system, with the Ministry of Education saying the technology will support the country’s competence‑based curriculum.
Ministry of Education permanent secretary Kelvin Mambwe told the state broadcaster on Sunday that AI is expected to improve efficiency in classrooms, ease teachers’ workload and strengthen learning outcomes.
“The essence for integrating AI in our systems is to promote efficiency and reduce workload for teachers as they deliver their lessons,” Mambwe said, adding that orientation on ethical use will begin soon.
Mambwe said the government is structuring the rollout to ensure teachers are trained to use the technology responsibly.
He said the ministry is also working to digitalise all schools and expand internet connectivity nationwide, including in rural areas as part of an initiative to prepare learners for a technology‑driven world.
He said AI tools will make it easier for pupils to design activities and projects under the competence‑based curriculum and will help align Zambia’s education system with international standards.
