The Palais des Sports de Treichville in Abidjan is set to host the 46th African Judo Championship from April 25th to 27th, 2025.
Organizers announced on Tuesday that the major continental event is expected to draw over 200 athletes from more than 20 African nations.
Specifically, over 200 judokas representing 25 African countries are anticipated to compete in the Senior African Judo Championship. This edition marks the second time Côte d’Ivoire has hosted the prestigious event, following the 1989 championship. Notably, the competition will contribute towards qualification for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games, adding another layer of significance for the participating athletes.
“We have put in place all the conditions for a high-level tournament,” stated Dabonne Seydou, President of Côte d’Ivoire Judo, during a press conference held in Abidjan. Officials from both the African Judo Union and the International Judo Federation are also in attendance, along with technical support staff who have been actively preparing for the championship since April 18th.
In the lead-up to the main competition, a dedicated referee training session is scheduled for Thursday, April 24th, ensuring the highest standards of officiating throughout the championship. The city of Abidjan is buzzing with anticipation as it prepares to welcome Africa’s top judokas for what promises to be a thrilling and crucial event on the international judo calendar.
