Namibia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Industrialisation, Mines and Energy, Natangwe Paulus Ithete will headline African Energy Week (AEW) 2025 in Cape Town where he is expected to showcase the country’s rapid ascent as a regional energy powerhouse.
Ithete’s participation comes amid a surge of investment and exploration activity that has positioned Namibia as one of the world’s most promising new petroleum frontiers.
Since his appointment in March under President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah’s administration, the country has seen accelerated momentum in both hydrocarbons and renewables.
Major offshore discoveries by Shell, TotalEnergies, Galp and Rhino Resources have drawn global attention.
TotalEnergies is set to submit a development plan for its Venus field this month while Galp confirmed a light oil find at Mopane-3X in February.
Chevron is preparing to drill in the Walvis Basin and Namibia continues to expand licensing through its open-door system.
In parallel, Namibia is advancing its green energy ambitions.
The $10-billion Hyphen Hydrogen Energy project, backed by the European Union and Germany, aims to produce green ammonia for export.
Solar and wind developments are also gaining traction, reinforcing the country’s strategy to become a clean energy hub.
AEW 2025, scheduled for 29 September to 3 October, will serve as a platform for Namibia to solidify its role in shaping Africa’s energy future.
