A large delegation of Afro-descendants and members of the African diaspora arrived in Ouagadougou this Sunday, marking a “symbolic return” to their ancestral homeland.
The mission, organized by the African Diaspora Development Institute (ADDI), includes approximately 700 participants from diverse backgrounds.
The delegation was welcomed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, led by Permanent Secretary and Ambassador Hernman Yirigouin Toe.
This trip, intended as an emotional journey of remembrance and fraternity, reflects the diaspora’s deep desire to reconnect with their African roots.
Dr. Arikana Chihombori, President of ADDI, conveyed the delegation’s pride, stating: “The President of Burkina Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traore, declared that Burkina Faso is the home of Africans. We came to show our support and reaffirm our commitment to working towards the realization of his shared vision for Africa.”
Ambassador Toe praised the initiative as one of “symbolic return and memorial reconciliation,” positioning Burkina Faso as a “host country and a source of hope for many Africans in the diaspora.” He emphasized that the visit occurs within a moment of “pan-Africanist renaissance” inspired by the vision of Head of State, Captain Ibrahim Traore.
The visit is scheduled to run from October 26 to November 8, 2025. The itinerary includes official meetings, conferences, cultural and historical visits, and solidarity initiatives aimed at supporting internally displaced persons. Economic exchanges are also planned to strengthen partnerships between the Diaspora and national development stakeholders.
