The Dakar Rescue Coordination Center (RCC) and its counterpart in the Canary Islands, both operating under the air forces of Senegal and Spain respectively, are preparing to sign an operational memorandum of understanding.
This is aimed at enhancing bilateral cooperation in air search and rescue (SAR), APA has learned.
As part of the ongoing partnership between Dakar and Madrid, a Senegalese delegation participated in the 2025 edition of the SAR exercises hosted by the Spanish Air Force from June 17 to 20 on Gran Canaria Island, according to a statement from Senegal’s National Civil Aviation and Meteorology Agency (Anacim).
On the sidelines of the drills, a bilateral meeting was held to discuss SAR coordinator training and the upcoming signing of an operational agreement between Dakar’s RCC and the Canary Islands’ Aeronautical Rescue Coordination Center (ARCC).
The agreement is expected to strengthen coordination, improve intervention efficiency, and promote experience sharing between the two centers.
The Senegalese delegation included Lieutenant Colonel Mansour Kane, head of Dakar’s RCC, Chief Warrant Officer Lamine Bop, and Abibou Mbaye from Anacim. Integrated within Senegal’s air traffic control services under the supervision of Anacim, the Dakar RCC regularly takes part in such exercises to maintain high levels of preparedness and interoperability with international partners.
