Burkina Faso’s Minister of Security, Mahamadou Sana, Monday, urged citizens to report instances of misconduct and abuse of authority by security agents, particularly at checkpoints and major roadways.
According to the minister in a statement seen by APA, some security personnel have been observed exceeding their mandate during routine inspections, engaging in unethical practices that undermine public trust and foster corruption.
“These behaviours harm the population and strain the relationship between citizens and security forces,” the statement read, without naming specific incidents.
The ministry stressed that such actions are “punishable offenses under the Penal Code” and should not be tolerated.
As part of the government’s crackdown on misconduct, citizens are encouraged to report any abuses or suspicious behaviour to the relevant authorities, including the National Coordination for Oversight of Security Forces (CONACFP) via the toll-free number 1020.
Despite these concerns, Minister Sana commended the overall commitment and dedication of Burkina Faso’s security forces in protecting lives and property.
