Algeria’s Housing Minister, Mohamed Tarek Belaribi, has unveiled a strategic roadmap for the housing sector focused on domestic industrial production, comprehensive digitalization, and the steady continuation of national housing programs through 2026.
Speaking at the inauguration of the 28th International Building Exhibition (Batimatec) in Algiers, the minister emphasized a shift toward developing a robust national industrial base. The exhibition, which spans 40,000 square meters and hosts nearly 950 exhibitors, serves as a showcase for the country’s building and construction materials industries. During the event, Belaribi called for a “100% Algerian product” throughout the construction supply chain, highlighting the government’s goal to deepen industrial integration within major public projects.
On the operational front, the ministry is currently overseeing the construction of approximately 130,000 housing units. These ongoing programs are part of a larger distribution effort across several wilayas, with new unit deliveries expected to continue through the end of 2026. Parallel to these physical construction efforts, the sector is rapidly accelerating its digital transformation. A key milestone in this modernization effort is the AADL 3 housing program, where approximately 950,000 subscribers have already successfully processed their payments electronically. This shift to digital procedures is intended to serve as a lever for administrative efficiency and to significantly reduce the need for in-person visits to service counters.
The Batimatec exhibition itself is reflecting these technological and environmental shifts by dedicating more space to startups and innovative solutions. Approximately forty exhibitors are showcasing smart building technologies and energy-efficient systems. Furthermore, the event features a specialized conference program and a technical competition, both aimed at addressing innovation, the environmental transition of the sector, and sustainable financing mechanisms specifically tailored to Algeria’s unique geographic and economic context.
