Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune began a two-day official visit to Germany on Wednesday, focused on strengthening political, economic, and energy cooperation between the two countries, with several agreements expected.
President Tebboune arrived in Germany at the invitation of his counterpart, Frank-Walter Steinmeier.
According to the Algerian presidency, the trip aims to deepen bilateral relations and give new impetus to the partnership between Algiers and Berlin.
The agenda includes talks with the German president and Chancellor Friedrich Merz, dedicated to cooperation prospects and key regional and international issues.
This visit comes amid a gradual rapprochement between the two capitals, marked in recent years by regular exchanges between the leaders of both countries.
Talks are expected to focus on strengthening cooperation mechanisms in several strategic sectors,
including energy, industry, investment, advanced technologies, and the energy transition.
An Algerian-German Economic Forum bringing together public officials and representatives of the private sector is also on the agenda.
Algerian authorities indicate that this economic meeting could lead to the signing of some thirty cooperation agreements covering hydrocarbons, renewable energy, pharmaceuticals, manufacturing, and new technologies.
Algiers has envisioned a partnership based on the transfer of know-how, industrial investment, and innovation to diversify its economy and attract more foreign capital.
Energy is one of the main areas of cooperation between the two countries. Talks are expected to focus in particular on the SoutH2 Corridor project, designed to transport green hydrogen produced
in Algeria to Europe via Tunisia, Italy, and Austria, ultimately reaching Germany.
This corridor is among the major European projects aimed at securing energy supplies and accelerating the transition to low-carbon energy.
Algerian authorities also highlighted the development of cooperation in the agricultural, pharmaceutical, mechanical, and industrial sectors.
More than fifty German companies are established in Algeria, while an institutional twinning program between the Algerian Investment Promotion Agency (AAPI) and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy aims to enhance the attractiveness of the Algerian market and encourage high-quality investments.
On the sidelines of this visit, President Tebboune is also scheduled to meet with members of the Algerian community in Germany.
For Algiers, this trip is part of a broader strategy to strengthen relations with key European partners, in a context where energy security, industrial transition, and regional stability are increasingly prominent in the dialogue between the two countries.
