The Algerian Defense Ministry reported that a military aircraft crashed Wednesday during a training exercise near the Aoulef region in the southern province of Adrar.
The ministry confirmed that the pilot, Lieutenant Colonel Bekkouche Nasr, died in the crash, which was also captured on a viral online video.
“During a scheduled training flight, a military fighter jet crashed on Wednesday,” the ministry said, offering condolences from Algerian Army Chief of Staff Saïd Chengriha on behalf of all the country’s military personnel.
Reports indicate that a second crew member managed to escape unharmed.
This is the second crash of a Sukhoi Su-30 in Algeria, following a similar accident in the province of Oum El Bouaghi in 2020.
The previous plane crash claimed the lives of two.
