The Council of the League of Arab States has officially called upon its member nations to actively engage with friendly countries to garner support for the Kingdom of Morocco’s candidacy for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council.
This unified stance was solidified at the recent Arab Summit held in Baghdad, where all member states voiced their strong support for Morocco’s bid for a seat on the UN Security Council for the 2028-2029 term. The summit’s declaration specifically urged Arab countries to proactively seek the backing of allied nations.
The 34th Arab League Summit concluded on Saturday with the issuance of the Baghdad Declaration. Among its key provisions was a clear statement of member states’ support for Morocco’s pursuit of a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council. The declaration explicitly stated that Arab states should “use all diplomatic means” at their disposal to mobilize international support for Rabat’s candidacy.
The Moroccan delegation at the Baghdad Summit was led by Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita, who delivered a speech on behalf of King Mohammed VI. Also present were Ambassador Mohamed Ait Ouali and diplomat Abdelali El Jahid.
Beyond the endorsement of Morocco’s UNSC candidacy, the summit’s agenda centered on fostering solidarity among Arab nations, with particular emphasis on the ongoing Israeli actions in Gaza and the broader issues of regional stability.
