The prime ministers of the Alliance of Sahelian States (AES), which includes Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger, have met on the sidelines of the 80th United Nations General Assembly to affirm their solidarity and their commitment to speaking with a unified voice.
According to a spokesperson from the Malian Prime Minister’s Office, the discussions provided an opportunity for the leaders to share information on their countries’ internal situations and analyze major global issues, including the expectations of the Sahelian people.
The heads of government committed to a common position at the UN, defending the aspirations of the AES people for independence, sovereignty, and dignity. The meeting also included plans for parallel activities, such as outreach initiatives with Sahelian communities living in the United States.
The prime ministers praised the confederation’s progress under the leadership of General Assimi Goita of Mali, Captain Ibrahim Traore of Burkina Faso, and General Abdourahamane Tiani of Niger. They reaffirmed their commitment to working together to ensure the dignity, sovereignty, and prosperity of the Sahelian people.
