Gabon’s captain and all-time leading scorer, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, has officially begun a specialized rehabilitation program in Agadir, Morocco.
The veteran striker is racing against time to regain full fitness for the Panthers’ AFCON campaign following a recent thigh injury.
Aubameyang arrived at the training camp on Monday and immediately started an individualized conditioning routine. To ensure a professional recovery, he is being supervised by Youssef Rahou, a physiotherapist from his club, Olympique de Marseille. The Injury: Aubameyang suffered a strain in his left hamstring during a league match approximately two weeks ago. The Rehabilitation: Current sessions are focusing on hip and thigh mobility to prepare his muscles for high-intensity exertion while minimizing the risk of a relapse. Medical Oversight: The medical staff is monitoring his progress daily to determine when he can safely transition from individual drills to full team training.
While his presence is a major boost for morale, his participation in the opening fixtures remains a subject of careful management: Vs. Cameroon (Dec 24): Aubameyang has been ruled out of the highly anticipated opening clash against the Indomitable Lions. Vs. Mozambique (Dec 28): The medical team is targeting the second group match for his return, though a slightly earlier comeback hasn’t been completely dismissed if his recovery exceeds expectations.
Gabon relies heavily on the experience of the former Arsenal and Barcelona star as they look to navigate a challenging group stage.
