Botswana’s men’s 4×400 metres relay team clinched gold on the final day of the Debswana World Athletics Relays, winning a dramatic final in a championship‑record time of 2:54.47.
The victory, delivered before a roaring home crowd at the National Stadium, capped one of the host nation’s strongest performances of the competition.
The quartet of Lee Bhekempilo Eppie, Letsile Tebogo, Bayapo Ndori and Busang Collen Kebinatshipi produced a commanding run that kept Botswana ahead of a fast‑closing field.
Their win sparked celebrations inside the stadium, where President Duma Boko joined the athletes on the track to present gold medals set with Botswana’s natural diamonds. The team also earned US$40,000 in prize money.
South Africa finished second in 2:55.07, while Australia took bronze in 2:55.20, rounding off a tightly contested final.
