Nigeria’s former President, General Muhammadu Buhari, died in a London clinic on Sunday afternoon, according to a statement by his former spokesman.
The statement, signed by Buhari’s spokesman, Mr. Garba Shehu, said: “The family of the former president has announced the passing on of the former President, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, this afternoon in a clinic in London. May Allah accept him in Aljannatul Firdaus, Amin.”
General Buhari, 82, had earlier served as a military Head of State of Nigeria from 1983 to 1985. He later entered into politics and served as Nigeria’s President from 2015 to 2023. During his eight-year tenure as Nigerian President, Buhari had travelled frequently on medical trips to the United Kingdom.
