Burkina Faso has taken a major step toward modernizing urban mobility in Ouagadougou with the formal inauguration of eight new road infrastructure projects spanning more than 22 kilometers of modern roadway.
Representing a total public investment estimated at over 40 billion CFA francs, the new roads were officially unveiled during a ceremony held on Saturday in Kossodo, located in the northern sector of the capital. The high-profile event was presided over by Prime Minister Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo, alongside the Minister of Construction of the Homeland, Mikaïlou Sidibé.
The newly inaugurated infrastructure features several critical transport links, including the Northern Ring Road linking the Northern interchange to National Road 3 (RN3), Avenue du Moogho Naaba, Avenue Yennega, and the Northwestern Ring Road. The development package also encompasses several strategic thoroughfares specifically designed to improve access to security and administrative facilities across the capital city. According to Minister Mikaïlou Sidibé, these infrastructure achievements reflect a vision of a sovereign, resilient Burkina Faso oriented toward progress, with urban mobility now serving as an essential lever for national defense, memory, social cohesion, and shared economic prosperity.
The absolute flagship of the initiative is the Northern Ring Road, which stretches over 10.230 kilometers and includes an additional 1,373 meters of service roads alongside a massive drainage and sanitation network extending across more than 20 linear kilometers. Speaking at the ceremony, the Prime Minister assured the public that state investment in road networks will steadily continue across the entire country to optimize urban traffic flow and secure access to strategic zones. He also concluded with an urgent call to local residents and motorists to actively preserve the new developments, emphasizing that the opening of these roads comes with a deep individual and collective responsibility to ensure the long-term durability of the nation’s financial investments as Ouédraogo faces rapid demographic growth and intense urban expansion.
