Burkinabè Prime Minister Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo received Moroccan Ambassador Youssef Slaoui in Ouagadougou on Tuesday to review priority areas of bilateral cooperation within the framework of an enhanced South-South partnership.
During their meeting, the Burkinabè head of government and the Moroccan ambassador took stock of the state of relations between the two countries and the prospects for deepening their partnership.
They focused in particular on sectors identified as strategic priorities: agriculture, vocational training, trade and security, the four pillars of cooperation between Ouagadougou and Rabat.
According to Ambassador Slaoui, relations between the two capitals rest on a shared vision of South-South cooperation that is “mutually beneficial, active and grounded in solidarity.”
He also recalled the packed diplomatic calendar of 2025, notably the convening of the fifth Joint Cooperation Commission on December 8, which coincided with the 60th anniversary of the restoration of diplomatic relations between Burkina Faso and Morocco, marking a significant milestone in their shared history.
“The Joint Commission was an opportunity to celebrate the friendship and fraternity between our two countries. We signed 14 agreements covering key sectors such as agriculture, vocational training, trade and security,” Ambassador Slaoui said following the meeting.
The Moroccan diplomat added that both sides are now focused on ensuring the effective implementation of these agreements through concrete projects with a direct impact on their populations.
With that in mind, he announced the development of a 2026 roadmap aimed at further strengthening cooperation and accelerating the delivery of commitments made during the Joint Commission.
“We reaffirm our readiness to support all efforts undertaken by Burkina Faso. We want to move forward with our cooperation and our strategic partnership, under the leadership of His Majesty the King of Morocco and the President of Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traoré,” the ambassador concluded.
The meeting reflects the shared determination of Ouagadougou and Rabat to build a pragmatic, forward-looking partnership centred on the development and prosperity of the Burkinabè and Moroccan peoples.
