Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and his Austrian counterpart, Beate Meinl-Reisinger, have signed an agreement in Vienna establishing scheduled air services between Egypt and Austria, according to an official statement released on Wednesday.
“This mechanism is designed to boost travel, tourism, and trade between the two nations,” the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in its statement regarding the newly signed bilateral aviation agreement.
The Egyptian top diplomat also attended the signing of a memorandum of understanding on cultural cooperation between the Kunsthistorisches Museum (Museum of Fine Arts) in Vienna and Egypt’s Supreme Council of Antiquities.
On this occasion, Abdelatty reaffirmed “the importance of enhancing coordination and exchanging expertise between the museums and archaeological institutions of both countries.” He added that the agreement would allow both sides to leverage best practices in the field, particularly in light of the openings of the Grand Egyptian Museum and the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization.
These developments took place during the inaugural round of political consultations between the two nations. The talks implement an agreement to establish a political consultation mechanism, which was signed during the Austrian minister’s visit to Cairo in June 2025.
The foreign ministry statement highlighted that Abdelatty expressed Cairo’s commitment to “propelling bilateral relations toward broader horizons,” particularly as Austria prepares to serve as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for the 2027–2029 term.
On the economic front, Abdelatty urged the Austrian government to “provide more guarantees and incentives for major Austrian corporations to invest in Egypt,” specifically highlighting opportunities in the Suez Canal Economic Zone, green hydrogen, and renewable energy sectors.
