President Mahamat Idriss Déby Monday announced to both chambers of Parliament the deployment of 1,500 Chadian soldiers to Haiti.
It is part of the multinational force tasked with combating gang violence under a United Nations mandate.
Authorised under Security Council Resolution 2795 of September 30, 2025, the operation aims to restore security in Haiti — a Caribbean nation ravaged by armed group violence.
Deployed since April 2026 for a one-year period, the international force is set to reach a total strength of 5,500 soldiers.
Chad will contribute two battalions of 750 soldiers each. A first contingent of 400 troops is already on the ground.
Invoking Article 96 of the 2024 constitution, the head of state justified the decision on grounds of international solidarity. He also recalled Chad’s track record of engagement in various peacekeeping operations, including in Mali, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Cameroon and Côte d’Ivoire, as well as in the fight against Boko Haram.
“The state cannot shirk its responsibilities,” he declared, also commending the dedication of Chadian defense and security forces deployed across various theatres of operation.
