The Holy See has appointed Reverend Father Jean Miguina as Bishop of the Diocese of Sarh, in southern Chad, replacing Bishop Miguel Angel Sebastian Martinez, whose resignation from the pastoral office due to age was accepted by the Pope.
The announcement of Reverend Father Jean Miguina’s appointment as Bishop of the Diocese of Sarh was made on Thursday by the Secretary General of the Chadian Episcopal Conference, Bishop Leandre, during the official presentation of the appointment notice.
The new bishop, aged 47, is a member of the Congregation of Friars Minor Capuchin (Franciscans).
Ordained priest in 2009 in Moundou, he has held several pastoral and administrative positions within his religious order in Chad and the Central African Republic.
Before his appointment, Father Jean Miguina was responsible for the formation of Capuchin aspirants in Chad and served as advisor to the Capuchin Friars Minor in Chad and the Central African Republic.
He succeeds Bishop Miguel Angel Sebastian Martinez, who had led the Diocese of Sarh since 2018.
His appointment is part of the renewal of the Chadian episcopate decided upon by the Holy See.
