The Malagasy Diaspora living in Chad have expressed several concerns about their situation on Tuesda and called for greater recognition of their role in national life.
This was made during a meeting with Colonel Michael Randrianirina, President of the Reform of the Republic of Madagascar.
On a mission to Chad, Colonel Randrianirina met with approximately 20 of his compatriots living in the country to listen to their concerns and the difficulties they face in their daily lives.
Talks focused in particular on the creation of a platform allowing Malagasy people living abroad to share their experiences with young Malagasy people.
Participants hope to contribute to the transmission of knowledge and experience acquired within the Diaspora.
The situation of Malagasy nationals living in Central Africa was also discussed. In the absence of a Malagasy embassy in some countries in the region, members of the Diaspora must complete certain administrative and consular procedures in Ethiopia, a situation they would like the authorities to address.
Malagasy people living and working in Chad also expressed their desire to contribute to Madagascar’s economic development. They particularly want to be able to invest in their country of origin and participate more actively in initiatives aimed at supporting its economy.
Finally, diaspora participation in Malagasy elections was among the concerns raised during the meeting. Malagasy nationals living abroad want a discussion to be held on the procedures that would allow them to participate in the various elections held in Madagascar.
This meeting is part of the approach initiated by the President of the Republic’s Reform during his trips abroad, which consists of engaging directly with Malagasy communities living outside the country and keeping abreast with their concerns.
