He urged the leaders of the confederate radio station of the Alliance of Sahel States (AES), “Daande Liptako,” to draw upon the geostrategic realities of the Sahel region to promote the narrative of the peoples of Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger.
The Minister of Communication of Burkina Faso, Pingdwende Gilbert Ouedraogo, who introduced the delegation from the media outlet’s Board of Directors, which was officially installed on June 8 in Ouagadougou, said that the delegation came to report on the work of its first session.
According to the Chair of the Board of Directors, Moussokoura Konate, eight draft resolutions were adopted and there refer mostly to the organization of the general management, the start-up budget, the editorial roadmap and staff regulations.
“The General Management now has a legal, regulatory and strategic framework to officially launch its activities,” she said.
Commending the work accomplished, Mr. Ouedraogo emphasized that the authorities of the AES (Senegalese Broadcasting Authority) consider communication an essential tool in the fight against what he termed “information warfare.”
For the Prime Minister, the confederation’s radio station must contribute to establishing “its own narrative,” based on peace, sovereignty, cohesion and the restoration of pride for the Sahelian peoples.
“The radio station will not be judged on its neutrality, but on its ability to champion the cause of the peoples of the Sahel,” he stated.
Created as a shared media tool for the three member states of the Confederation, “Daande Liptako” aims to produce and disseminate a narrative specific to the Sahel region, within a context marked by intense information competition.
