Morocco’s Director General of National Security and Territorial Surveillance (DGSN–DGST), Abdellatif Hammouchi, held a working meeting in Rabat on Tuesday with the Director of Police and head of Denmark’s national unit for combating organised crime, Mikael Wern.
The Danish police chief was accompanied by senior officials responsible for security and crime-fighting, as well as representatives of the Danish Embassy in Morocco.
According to a statement from the DGSN–DGST hub, the talks focused on several security issues of mutual interest, notably an assessment of the level of bilateral cooperation in combating transnational criminal networks and the cross-border mobility of terrorist organisations at regional and international levels.
They also addressed the challenges of strengthening coordination mechanisms for monitoring, prosecution and the extradition of internationally wanted individuals.
The meeting also provided an opportunity for both sides to reaffirm the importance of promoting and deepening security cooperation between the two countries. The parties agreed to establish an institutional and legal framework consolidate cooperation between Morocco’s national security and territorial surveillance services and their Danish counterparts. This framework would cover, in particular, the exchange of expertise, technical assistance, the strengthening of joint police training programs and the development of operational cooperation.
To this end, the two sides agreed to move toward the signing of a memorandum of understanding as a reference framework for bilateral cooperation. The agreement is intended to serve as the basis for robust security collaboration, reflecting Morocco’s growing role as a key and reliable partner within the international system for combating crime, terrorism and extremism.
The statement noted that the meeting forms part of the DGSN and DGST’s broader strategy to strengthen international partnerships with security services in friendly and allied countries, while also opening up to new international and regional partners.
It further underscores the firm commitment of Morocco’s security services to international efforts aimed at neutralising risks and threats to regional and global security.
