The death toll from last week’s ferry disaster on Zimbabwe’s Lake Kariba has risen to 94, the police announced on Wednesday.
Police said “search teams will continue as efforts to locate any missing persons or bodies.”
The latest figure follows an increase from 93 deaths reported by police on Monday.
At least 83 victims had been identified by their relatives, with the casualties including children.
The ferry, operated by Zimbabwe’s Rural Infrastructure Development Agency, capsized on 11 August while travelling from the town of Kariba to remote communities and fishing camps along the lake.
Reports say the vessel encountered strong waves and was carrying about 180 passengers and cargo at the time of the accident.
Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa declared the incident a national disaster, ordering maritime safety agencies and security forces to address deficiencies in the country’s maritime capabilities.
