Djibouti and Somalia, on Monday, reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations, at a meeting between Ismail Omar Guelleh and Hassan Cheikh Mahamoud.
The Djiboutian leader received his Somali counterpart at the Presidential Palace for a periodic consultation between the two countries.
The talks focused on friendly relations and cooperation between Djibouti and Somalia, two countries bound by close cultural, linguistic, and geographical ties.
Talks also addressed the situation in Somalia, particularly the country’s efforts to ensure the safety of its citizens and property throughout its national territory.
The two leaders discussed Israel’s recent decision recognising Somaliland as a sovereign state, believing that such a move could set a dangerous precedent for regional stability.
Djibouti, which defends Somalia’s territorial integrity, reiterated its alignment with the positions of regional, continental, and international organisations that have rejected this recognition in the name of the principle of inviolable borders.
The Somali president was accompanied by a high-level delegation, including the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abdisalam Ali Dhay; the Minister of Education, Farah Sheikh Abdoulkader; the Deputy Chief of Staff to the President, Mohamed Amin Sheikh; and the Somali ambassador to Djibouti, Salad Ali Jeleh.
On the Djiboutian side, the talks brought together the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Abdoulkader Houssein Omar; the Head of National Security, Hassan Said Kaireh; and the Director of the Arab Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mohamed Doulaleh Walieh.
