A faith based humanitarian organisation on Tuesday appealed to partners to bolster the response to the multi sectoral needs of thousands of internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Democratic Republic of Congo’s South Kivu.
Head of Christian Humanitarian Action (CHA) in South Kivu’s Uvira district Alexis Daudi said there was urgent need to have a multi-sectoral response to the crisis facing IDPs in the region.
“We are witnessing profound human distress. Every day, families arrive exhausted, without shelter, without food. The emergency is real. Our duty is to respond but we cannot do it alone,” Daudi said.
“Christian Humanitarian Action is issuing an urgent appeal to technical and financial partners as well as the entire humanitarian and international community to intervene urgently to strengthen the capacity to respond to this multi-sectoral crisis.”
He said the organisation remains fully mobilised, with teams delivering reception, registration emergency shelter, food assistance and psychosocial support for displaced persons.
Reports indicate that bombings and violence across several localities in South Kivu have killed hundreds, left many injured or traumatised, destroyed villages and forced families to flee empty handed.
