Ethiopia has earned $546 million from coffee export in two months, the Ethiopian Coffee and Tea Authority disclosed on Thursday.
The East African country exported 80 metric tons of coffee to earn the stated sum of money in the past two months, the authority said in a statement.
The revenue marks a strong start to the 2025/26 Ethiopian fiscal year, the statement quoted the authority’s director-general, Adugna Debela, as saying.
Recalling that Ethiopia exported 470,000 tons of coffee last fiscal year, earning 2.26 billion dollars, the director general said the country now aims to raise exports to 600,000 tonnes and revenues to 3 billion dollars this year which began on July 8, 2025.
Debela said ongoing reforms in the coffee supply chain have allowed more direct sales from producers to international buyers, helping streamline the export process.
The government has also moved quality inspection closer to production areas, decentralizing what was previously done mainly in Addis Ababa, he added.
He added that new coffee washing and grading centres established near farms are improving product quality and boosting farmers’ earnings.
According to information obtained from the authority, Saudi Arabia, Germany, and the United States have been the first three major export destinations of Ethiopian coffee while Belgium, South Korea, the United Arab Emirates, and China have taken from fourth to seventh positions.
