Ethnic violence has left at least three people dead including a seven-year-old and three others wounded in eastern Ethiopia, APA can report on Friday.
Eyewitnesses, who spoke to APA on condition of anonymity, said that on the morning of 27 August, attackers opened fire on children tending cattle in Oroto Keble, Arero district, killing seven-year-old Ebisa Dika.
Kiya Godana, chief administrator of Oroto Keble, confirmed to local media that the child, a second-grade student, was killed and buried the same day.
Following the incident, residents reported renewed clashes in the Melka Adi area of Wachille between ethnic Oromo people and armed men from the Somali Region.
The eyewitnesses said federal forces later intervened, bringing temporary calm to the area.
However, on Friday, armed men from the Somali region reportedly opened fire in Garbii Didisa, killing a young man named Dabaso Guyo and injuring two others, who are receiving treatment in Arero and Wachille.
Clashes between the two ethnic groups along the border of the Somali and Oromia regional states have forced many households to flee, with residents from Wachille, Arero, and Dhaas seeking refuge in towns such as Borbor.
Borbor town residents confirmed that people displaced from Dhaas have settled there.
They stressed the urgent need for humanitarian assistance, warning that unless the security issues along the East Borana–Somali border are resolved, clashes and displacement will continue.
