Gabonese President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema will inaugurate a drinking water pumping station in Libreville on Monday.
This is part of a major program funded by the African Development Bank (AfDB) to improve access to water and sanitation in the capital.
President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema will officially inaugurate a drinking water pumping station in the PK5 district of Libreville on Monday, in the presence of the President of the African Development Bank (AfDB) Group.
The project is part of the Libreville Integrated Drinking Water Supply and Sanitation Program (PIAEPAL), co-financed to the tune of €117.4 million by the AfDB and the Africa Growing Together Fund (AGTF), established with the support of China.
The AfDB has mobilised a €75.4 million loan for this program, while the AGTF has contributed €42 million, according to details provided by the Gabonese authorities.
This program aims to sustainably improve access to drinking water for the capital’s population by modernising and expanding water production and distribution infrastructure, while improving the sanitation of urban households.
PIAEPAL is aligned with the priorities of Gabon’s Transformation Acceleration Plan (PAT) and aims to meet the growing needs related to the urbanisation of Libreville, whose outlying neighbourhoods are experiencing sustained demographic pressure.
