The Gorée Institute will bring together state, political, social and religious actors from 27 to 28 November in the Guinean capital to explore ways of ensuring a peaceful presidential election scheduled for 28 December 2025.
The two-day workshop, held at Conakry’s Hôtel Petit Bateau in Conakry under the theme “Promoting Peace and Strengthening Social Cohesion for a Peaceful Election in Guinea,” is part of the Research in the Service of Democracy and Social Cohesion (RESDECS) project. The initiative is co-funded by the European Union through Team Europe Democracy (TED), implemented by ENABEL, and deployed in Côte d’Ivoire, Guinea and Senegal.
According to the document shared with APA, representatives of the government, political parties, civil society, religious and traditional authorities, youth and women’s groups, researchers, regional organisations and technical and financial partners will discuss peace, social cohesion and governance challenges in what is considered a sensitive pre-electoral buildup.
The Gorée Institute will present findings from the RESDECS project, including data collected through its citizen monitoring mechanism. The analyses highlight tensions linked to the transition process, persistent distrust of institutions, restrictions on civic space, socioeconomic vulnerabilities and rising risks of polarisation ahead of the 28 December presidential vote.
As in Abidjan and Dakar, the Conakry workshop will provide a space to share the conclusions of two policy briefs on Guinea, identify risk factors and jointly develop solutions to prevent tensions. Recommendations will be addressed to decision-makers, backed by a collective advocacy strategy. A final declaration calling for a free, transparent and peaceful election is also planned.
Through this initiative, the Gorée Institute reaffirms its commitment to crisis prevention, citizen participation and the strengthening of democratic governance in the Republic of Guinea.
