Following the announcement of provisional results from the December 28, 2025, presidential election, Guinea’s President-elect Mamadi Doumbouya issued a call for national unity and solidarity.
Speaking on Sunday, January 4, Doumbouya declared that there is “neither victor nor vanquished” in the contest, but rather “one Guinea, united and indivisible.”
The President-elect, who secured a seven-year term, expressed his gratitude to the Guinean people for the trust they placed in him during the first round of voting. He praised the maturity and composure shown by citizens throughout the process, asserting that the country has proven it can determine its own destiny in peace. Doumbouya also thanked his fellow candidates, noting that their participation strengthened the nation’s democratic debate.
Looking toward the future, Doumbouya announced that 2026 would be a year defined by hard work, rigor, and shared hope. He emphasized his commitment to building a prosperous and sovereign Guinea, calling on all citizens—including those in the diaspora—to join in the effort to establish a nation rooted in justice and shared prosperity.
The General Directorate of Elections (DGE) recently released provisional data crediting Doumbouya with 86.72 percent of the votes, based on an 80.95 percent turnout. These figures now await final validation by the Supreme Court. Despite the official reports, the post-election period remains tense as some opposition figures, including former president Alpha Condé and UFDG leader Cellou Dalein Diallo, have publicly rejected the results and contested the credibility of the entire electoral process.
