On the eve of the Christian Lent and the holy month of Ramadan, jailed Chadian opposition leader and former Prime Minister Succès Masra issued a powerful call for spiritual and national unity from his place of detention.
In a message delivered on Tuesday to faithful both in Chad and the diaspora, Masra hailed the simultaneous occurrence of these two major religious periods as a “sign of destiny” and a “maktub” for the country’s shared future. He framed this coincidence as a historic opportunity for collective transformation rooted in universal values, asserting that justice and equality are the essential foundations for lasting peace and national cohesion.
Addressing the moral and political requirements of the nation, Masra emphasized that the unity of Chad can only be built when justice is guaranteed for every citizen. He offered his well-wishes for a “happy Lent” and a “Ramadan Kareem,” urging believers to use their time of fasting and prayer for deep reflection on the quest for a more equitable society. Invoking God as “the great silent Witness in churches and mosques,” he prayed for blessings upon those actively working toward a future founded on peace and unity.
The former Prime Minister also expressed his gratitude for the outpouring of support and prayers he has received since his imprisonment, concluding his message with a resilient promise to see his followers soon. Masra is currently serving a 20-year prison sentence on charges including murder, criminal conspiracy, and the dissemination of hate speech. Despite his conviction, his legal team and political supporters continue to denounce the proceedings as a politically motivated effort to silence him, maintaining their calls for his immediate release.
